“Making it Happen” Telethon

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Brookline Public Relations was excited to be a part of Shaw Communications’ first “Making it Happen” Telethon, a nation-wide live auction that was held to raise money for Canada Athletes Now Fund. On November 16,  70 athletes, including members of the 2008 Men’s 8 Gold Medal Rowing Team; Carol Huynh, Gold Medalist Wrestling; and Paralympic 100m Gold Medalist Earle Connor, managed the phones for eight hours taking bids from generous viewers. In addition to the athletes, 250 volunteers worked hard to ensure the event was a success.

In total, the country raised more than $150,000 to support high-performance athletes training for 2010. Shaw graciously matched the contributions to provide a grand total of $300,000. The Brookline team provided media relations to raise awareness across the county as well as helped secure sponsorship and auction items.

Making it Happen

Brookline organized the launch of Shaw’s Making it Happen initiative in April 2008 with an employee event that drew 700 to Canada Olympic Park. The leading communications company hosted an exclusive barbeque to celebrate Shaw’s support for the Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton (BCS) team as they prepare for 2010.

More than 700 Shaw employees, their families and Canadian Olympic athletes gathered together to mingle, enjoy dinner, have their picture taken in an official Shaw bobsleigh and learn more about what Shaw will be doing to support athletes.
