Wednesday, August 25 marked an important day for the home construction industry as PinkWood Ltd. celebrated the first installation of its new fire, mould and moisture resistant flooring products. Brookline was thrilled to help launch this new company that is making homes safer and giving back to the community. One cent per linear foot (roughly $25 per home) of material sold will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Prairies/NWT Region (the Foundation). The Chestermere Fire Department came out in full force to show their support for the new product and a $10,000 cheque was presented to the Foundation as a goodwill gesture. With a little elbow grease (and more than a dozen pink balloons and arrows) Brookline executed another successful event and was able to secure several media opportunities resulting in great coverage. Check out our Facebook page for more photos.

On August 23 and 24, members of the Brookline team travelled to Lloydminster to conduct media training with Mayor Jeff Mulligan as well as members of City Council and municipal Directors and Managers. Known as Canada’s “Border City”, Lloydminster is uniquely located half in Alberta, and half in Saskatchewan. Along with the regular excitement and challenges of managing the needs of a growing city, Lloydminster’s inter-provincial geographic location also presents other dilemmas, such as GST and PST, Daylight Savings Time, and of course, which CFL football team to cheer for! Working with the city’s representatives over two days, Brookline shared tips and tactics to help city representatives feel at ease in front of the camera. We appreciated the warm hospitality from Lloydminster and Mayor Mulligan, and look forward to returning to lovely Lloydminster one day soon!

Each month at Brookline we take an afternoon to do a fun team building activity together, which can range from horseback riding to bracelet making. We’re usually up for anything, which Shauna must have had in mind when she set out to devise an “Amazing Race” course for our Fun Day on Wednesday, July 28th. Lucky for us we have a fantastic network of clients and suppliers who were willing to lend a hand and act as “pit stops” throughout the race. Some even had to endure our terrible singing voices!

We were split into three teams, identifiable by our red, white or black bandanas, and sent racing out the door with the first clue in hand. Team Red quickly pulled into the lead, with Team Black hot on their heels. The clues had us sorting spices at Jack of Hearts café, then chicken dancing at Original Joe’s on 4th, followed by trivia at Nonfiction Studios, and even a stop by the Sandstone Lounge at the Hyatt for a yummy beverage. The hydration was helpful in preparing for the next task, which was singing the national anthem at Rodinia Oil. Many apologies to all of their staff. From there, we dropped by dmg events and answered a riddle, then headed over to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation where we donned pink tutus and feather boas.

With the final clue, we knew it was the home stretch. It read, “Where is Shauna’s favourite place to dine?” Brava Bistro of course! Team Red sprinted to the finish, just in front of Team Black. Team White had some difficulties, but promptly joined as soon as they heard there was food and refreshments.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped out with our Amazing Race, we had a blast!

Global Petroleum Show (GPS) 2010 wowed attendees with new features including the International Ministers Forum, with international delegates from Qatar, Peru, Yemen and India; provincial and municipal government tours of the event; and free technology presentations. GPS 2010, run by dmg :: events (dmg), had a strong international presence, welcoming visitors from over 100 countries who converged at the event to participate in educational sessions and conference events. Brookline was thrilled to run the press office and all media relations for GPS 2010. We were also happy to report that GPS received fantastic media coverage this year.

Despite a few rainy days, GPS pulled in a significant number of attendees, all keen to share ideas and innovations and to take advantage of new networking opportunities including receptions, Freestyle Motocross and a daily Rodeo hosted by world champion bull rider Cody Snyder. dmg’s next petroleum event will take place in Fort McMurray, Alberta this fall. Please stay tuned for details!

Last week, Brookline supported Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE), a national charitable organization that is teaching and igniting young Canadians to create brighter futures for themselves and their communities. Brookline was involved with the media relations efforts for their National Exposition, which took place at the TELUS Convention Centre between May 10 – 12.

The event kicked off with a panel discussion with some legendary Calgary businessmen, including Dick Haskayne, David Bissett and John Forzani, and moderated by BNN’s Brett Harris.

Competition took place over two days where over 500 students involved, and 300 judges and over 50 top Presidents and CEOs helped to determine the National Champions. The competition presentations told some inspiring stories about the outreach projects and entrepreneurial business ventures taking place across our country on over 50 university and college campuses. Brookline was proud to be a supporter of ACE, and also greeted students at their Career Opportunity Fair. The event was also well attended by media, providing ample television, online, print and radio coverage for ACE leading up to, and throughout the event, both locally and nationally.

The event wrapped up with a memorable closing party on Wednesday evening.

Kudos ACE on a great event, and we look forward to seeing “y’all” in Calgary sometime again soon! Yahoo!
