Strengthening wildfire resilience in the Bow Valley

Posted on March 18, 2025

With wildfires a growing concern in Alberta, ensuring that residents (especially those living in high-risk areas) are informed and prepared is more important than ever. Brookline was thrilled to support the Bow Valley Interagency Wildfire Committee, which is comprised of members from the Town of Banff, Parks Canada, Alberta Parks, Alberta Wildfire, the Town of Canmore, the MD of Bighorn and Lake Louise, in hosting a public panel discussion on wildfire mitigation. This critical event brought together a panel of experts to share updates on ongoing FireSmart initiatives and strategies aimed at reducing wildfire risk across the region.

From the initial planning stages to event day execution, Brookline played a key role in making this panel discussion a success. Our team managed all aspects of venue coordination and event logistics to ensure a seamless experience for panelists, attendees and media. To maximize public engagement, we also developed and executed a targeted event promotion strategy, leveraging local advertising and social media content to encourage attendance.

Another key component of our work was preparing the panelists by developing a set briefing materials to ensure speakers were confident and aligned on key messaging. Additionally, our team designed and managed the comprehensive slideshow presentation, helping to illustrate the ongoing wildfire mitigation efforts in an accessible and engaging format.

To further amplify the event and its important purpose, Brookline supported with media relations efforts by drafting a media advisory and managing media onsite at the event.

Recognizing that not all residents could attend in person, we coordinated with third-party audio-visual experts to ensure the event was live streamed to residents across the region.

The panel discussion served as a valuable opportunity for local residents to learn about FireSmart best practices, ongoing mitigation projects in their communities and regional emergency response planning. This event was the first in a series of public engagements, with future events planned around wildfire preparedness initiatives later this year.

Brookline is proud to have supported this initiative, reinforcing our commitment to meaningful communications that inform, engage and empower communities.

Wildfire mitigation is a shared responsibility, and through events like this, we are taking proactive steps to create more resilient communities.
